Samui sets up midnight charity run

18 Mar 2013

Civic organisations on Samui have organised a first annual night race in aid of charity which is set to take place on Saturday 30 March. Runners can opt for two different circuit lengths, one following a five-kilometre route and the other a challenging double lap of the same circuit.

The start and finish points of the runs are Chaweng’s iconic Reggae Pub. Runners are scheduled to set off from the pub at midnight and then go along Beach Road and around Green mango before heading for the finish line. A route map is available on the organisers’ website.

The run is being jointly organised by the Thai Association of Koh Samui and the Thai Hoteliers Association. A spokesperson for the organisations said they expected lots of runners to take part in the inaugural Samui benefit race.

The spokesperson added that he hoped the run would become a feature of the island’s annual events calendar. Funds raised this year will be donated to Samui’s new facility for disabled youngsters and the hotel association’s Green Project.

Runners are required to pay a registration fee to compete. Until 29 March the fee is 600 Baht and on the day it is 800 Baht. Participants can pre-book their place by registering on the organisers’ website. Those who do so will receive a competition T-shirt with their own unique runner’s number on it.

All runners who complete the race will be awarded souvenir medals. Winners of the different age and gender groups will each receive trophies. This 1Stop Samui page has more details about annual festivals and events in the region.
