InterContinental takes over luxury resort

7 Mar 2011

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has agreed a management contract to run Koh Samui’s original luxury getaway holiday resort. The globe’s biggest hotel group announced today that it will take over the running of the island’s Baan Taling Ngam Resort & Spa.

IHG has agreed terms with Elite Villa Limited, a Thai company, to revamp the 79-room resort to bring it in line with the global hotel chain’s high standards and range of guest facilities. IHG says the resort will temporarily close to allow an extensive refurbishment to be undertaken and that the soft re-opening will take place on 1 October 2011.

The resort is located on the Taling Ngam shore on the southeast side of Koh Samui, just south of the island’s main ferry port. It sits on a cliff overlooking the pristine waters of the Gulf of Thailand and boasts spectacular views of the Five Islands and enclosing national marine park.

The Baan Taling Ngam has a 300m-long beach frontage and is ringed by coconut plantations on its landward side. Since the resort first opened its doors it has become synonymous with luxury.

Elite Villa’s managing director, Vikorn Srivikorn, said that the resort had a great history and had rightfully been named as one of the most popular holiday locations in southern Thailand. He added that joining forces with IHG would allow Baan Taling Ngam to evolve and give future guests an unforgettable vacation experience.

IHG manage properties in around 60 countries. Baan Taling Ngam is the group’s second property in Thailand and follows the 2009 opening of the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort.
