Samui has some of the best hospitals in Southern Thailand and you would hardly notice you’re in a developing country when you set foot inside these facilities. Services offered, equipment, facilities and the quality of the staff are superb and you could have a heart bypass from around US$10,000-40,000 as opposed to US$150,000 in the US.
Whether you’re a tourist needing some outpatient treatment, an expat needing to rely on good local health services or a medical tourist looking to have some cosmetic surgery or dental work done, these hospitals offer a satisfying and professional service at affordable rates.
Despite the small size of Samui, it has numerous hospitals with several first class private facilities catering to the wealthy who visit the island. Thailand’s hospitals are noted for their high standards, affordable private rooms, hospitable staff and professional, English speaking doctors.
Medical care in Samui
Medical care in Samui is among the best in all of Thailand, with only Bangkok and Phuket in front of it for facilities, services and quality staff. However, prices on Samui are cheaper than in Bangkok for many major procedures, including heart bypass and dental work.
Samui is not noted as the main medical tourist centre in Thailand but its hospitals do target the foreigners with such services. More importantly those expats living on the island and visitors are assured of top rate medical attention should it be needed, and there is little reason to leave the island for medical care.
Doctors in Samui
Most of the accredited doctors and nurses who work in Samui’s private hospitals can speak English, and some can even speak German and French.
