Maps of Samui are freely available in several tourist magazines that are distributed across the island. Local magazines on Koh Tao and Koh Pha Ngan have maps of these islands and local areas also. In addition, loose maps of Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao are distributed free at many tourist centres. This virtual Samui map accurately shows the main beach areas and landmarks to scale, for your interest. The map of Koh Phan Ngan and map of Koh Tao have also been produced with the same consistency for your convenience.
Geography of Samui - maps
Samui is a pear shaped island in the Gulf of Thailand. On the map, Samui is found within the Surat Thani province of Southern Thailand, and can be reached from the mainland by means of a 90 minute ferry ride or 1 hour flight from Bangkok. On this map we've included Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao - the areas' three most popular destinations. Koh Phan Ngan is less than an hour's ferry ride away, but Koh Tao is quite a bit further north on the map.
Samui can be circled by car or motorbike in an hour, using a good road that traverses the shores of the island through all main beach and tourist areas. You'll notice that mountains that are accessible by off road bike only, dominate the centre of the Samui map. The rest of the island is flat or mildly undulating and a network of sealed roads make it easy to explore.
