Samui has a wide range of guesthouses, offering plenty of options at reasonable prices. There are so many places to choose from, especially at Chaweng and Lamai where it is easy to stroll around until you find somewhere that suits your taste and budget. Bear in mind that these are very popular locations and the guesthouses nearest to the main nightlife centres tend to be noisier.
The beaches at Mae Nam and Choeng Mon are much quieter, but it’s possible to find some peace and tranquility all over the island, with some great beachside locations, too.
Since Samui has gone upmarket, you shouldn’t expect to find guesthouses right on the beach at backpacker prices, but, if you don’t insist on staying in Chaweng or Lamai, you’ll have more luck.
